I moved from the private to the public sector to contribute to a broader purpose. I want to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives while ensuring financial sustainability, and working in public finance allows me to align financial acumen with social impact, which is incredibly fulfilling.

Navigating the balance between policy, efficiency and transparency is a key challenge in public sector finance. The increasing integration of ESG and enhanced service delivery through technology is particularly exciting, offering opportunities to streamline operations and enhance decision-making. At the same time, addressing long-term sustainability while balancing technological service delivery enhancements in financial strategies is a growing trend, and I’m inspired by the chance to help organisations achieve long-term goals that benefit both their stakeholders and the environment.

We manage investments of over A$2bn sustainably

My career started in a different country as well as a different sector. I was a trainee with Mazars in South Africa, which taught me the importance of adaptability and gave me the confidence to take on more complex roles. My first big break came when I joined Deloitte Australia nearly 15 years ago, where I became an ACCA, a designation that opened the path for me to obtain broader international experience.

The ACCA qualification has been pivotal to my career. Its global recognition and rigorous standards equipped me with the technical and strategic skills needed to excel in different markets. The ACCA network has been invaluable while working internationally, offering connections and resources that made moves seamless.

I now work for Queensland Public Trustee. It’s a government corporation that provides essential support, services and information for Queenslanders in financial administration, life planning, trusts and deceased estate management. I oversee more than 90 staff, who work in financial operations, customer finance, corporate finance and transformation delivery, and manage investments of over A$2bn. I am in charge of strategic financial planning and governance to ensure sustainable outcomes for the organisation and the communities we serve.

If I weren’t an accountant, I’d be a fitness coach – anything outdoors

I’m naturally driven. I always challenge myself in work, fitness and family commitments. I also draw inspiration from my family. Their unwavering support has been a constant reminder of why I strive for excellence in everything I do.

I’m passionate about fitness and enjoy gym routines that combine strength and endurance training. Weekends are also about spending time with my family, whether it’s exploring the outdoors or simply relaxing at home. In fact, if I weren’t an accountant, I’d be a fitness coach and travel blogger. Anything outdoors.
