I began my career in audit, which gave me the opportunity to see how organisations operate and the critical role finance plays in decision-making. I then moved into corporate finance, followed by my current role in the public sector with Qatar Rail, where I focus on cash management and financial stewardship. My interest in finance was inspired by a natural connection towards numbers and problem-solving, but I was also drawn to the impact that good financial management can have on an organisation’s sustainability and growth.

I’ve seen first-hand the differences between sectors. Audit was highly structured and compliance-driven, with a focus on validating financial information, whereas corporate finance is more commercially oriented, emphasising strategic decision-making, profitability and performance. The public sector prioritises accountability, transparency, and long-term value for society rather than profit.

I chose to remain in the public sector because of the sense of purpose it provides

I chose to remain in the public sector because of the sense of purpose it provides. I contribute to large-scale infrastructure and public services that directly impact people’s lives. My role offers both a professional challenge and meaningful work.

Leaving a structured audit environment for a more operational finance role required me to adapt quickly. I had to take ownership of financial processes and develop a broader commercial mindset. I was pushed to build new skills in strategic thinking, decision-making and managing our stakeholders.

‘Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out’ is my favourite mantra. It resonates with me because I believe consistency and discipline are key to long-term achievement.

If I had law-making powers, I would strengthen financial literacy education at an early stage. Making financial education a mandatory part of the school curriculum would help people make informed decisions, reduce debt-related issues and contribute to overall economic stability.

I enjoy the responsibility and impact of managing cashflows in a large public organisation. The role requires a balance of analytical thinking, risk management and widespread collaboration. Knowing that my work contributes to maintaining financial stability in an organisation like Qatar Rail is something I find particularly rewarding.

I have successfully moved across different areas of finance, working in the audit, corporate and public sectors. I’ve been able to continuously build my expertise and accept new challenges. Throughout my career I have strengthened my technical skills and my ability to operate in diverse environments.

Reading literature and poetry in my native language helps me stay connected to my roots

If I did not work in finance, I would likely have pursued a career in data analytics or technology. I am particularly interested in how data can be used to provide insights, improve efficiency and support decision-making.

I greatly value spending time with my family and maintaining a good work-life balance. I enjoy staying active, reading about finance and personal development, and following developments in technology and global markets. I also like reading literature and poetry in my native language, which helps me stay connected to my roots, and unwinding with the latest games after a busy day at the office. Discovering Doha’s diverse culture and experiencing a variety of cuisines allows me to appreciate different flavours from around the world right here in Qatar.
