Working in Ireland has been a very positive experience for me. I’m originally from China and have been based in Dublin for the past nine years. The country offers a lot of opportunities, particularly if you’re willing to learn, adapt and take on new challenges. I’ve found the business environment open, collaborative and supportive. There is a strong culture of encouraging people to take the initiative, explore new opportunities and develop their careers, which has allowed me to gain exposure to different areas and continue growing professionally.

I work at ING Wholesale Banking in Dublin, which serves large corporate and institutional clients. The Dublin branch functions as a strategic lending hub and centre of excellence rather than offering retail or personal banking services.

Business is ultimately about people

I am part of a team providing end-to-end transaction management for corporate clients across the lending lifecycle. My current responsibilities include processing new credit facilities and amendments, reviewing risk ratings, assessing credit documentation, and monitoring lending activities to ensure compliance with internal policies and risk standards.

More broadly, I contribute to enabling businesses to access funding and supporting the smooth functioning of lending operations, which ultimately plays a role in driving economic activity and client growth.

One of the big opportunities coming down the line is to reduce manual effort. By making better use of AI, and improving coordination across teams, we will be enabling people to focus on the work where they add the most value through judgement and collaboration.

Being selected for ACCA’s Leaders of Tomorrow programme is a great opportunity for me. I hope to deepen my understanding of how organisations adapt and evolve, particularly in operational efficiency and cross-functional collaboration. I’m also keen to strengthen my ability to contribute beyond my immediate role. I look forward to learning from a diverse group of peers, gaining different perspectives and building connections that will support my long-term career and personal development.

I’ve come to realise that business is ultimately about people. Building trust, understanding different perspectives and working well with others is what creates meaningful and sustainable impact.

To get away from it all, I enjoy running, listening to podcasts and staying active. All help me unwind and gain new perspectives. I also value spending quality time with people I like and making the most of everyday moments. I’m naturally curious and open to new experiences, and I enjoy trying different things simply for the perspective and energy they bring.
