The businesses we work with are feeling the effects of worldwide economic uncertainty right now. While this is bringing about really challenging times in some sectors, overall, businesses appear cautiously optimistic. We see our clients balancing growth ambitions with uncertainty around economic pressures. They are seeking trusted guidance to make informed decisions.

Friel Stafford is a leading Irish advisory firm, recognised for its specialisations in insolvency and restructuring, corporate finance and forensic accounting. Founded in 1994, we are known for our practical approach, together with our technical expertise and experience. The firm was acquired by ifac Group in 2023; new ownership has provided new energy, and we are excited to build our value-adding services as part of a top-10 firm.

As partner, I oversee client relationships, provide strategic and financial advisory, and specialise in SME and complex insolvency and restructuring arrangements. I guide clients through challenging circumstances while mentoring teams to deliver practical solutions.

Building trust through integrity creates lasting relationships

One of the biggest opportunities for us in being part of ifac Group is helping the wider business adapt to the ever-changing economic landscape. The goal is always to efficiently assist our clients. As we operate in specialist advisory services, our clients will require refined services in light of digital and AI transformations. Our response will focus on investing in technology, expanding advisory capabilities, and strengthening our teams’ skills to adapt confidently to market and regulatory change.

I am the current vice-chair of the ACCA Ireland Committee, and also chair the ACCA Ireland Practitioners’ Panel. It’s a role that sees me work with a group of leading professionals who meet regularly to discuss current and future matters relating to the accounting profession. We represent practitioners’ perspectives, contribute to policy discussions and gain insight into sector-wide trends. It’s been invaluable in shaping ACCA initiatives that support members and enhance professional standards.

To get away from it all, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. I have young kids so there is great fun in watching them learn new things and grow every day. Outside of family life, I love playing football; I give every game my all, although the years are catching up on me!

The most important business lesson I have learned in my career is that listening carefully to all stakeholders and understanding their position is crucial. Building trust through integrity and responsiveness forms a great base to provide practical advice, which in turn creates lasting relationships and sustainable business success.
