Our main interview this month is with Shirumeena Hussain FCCA, the first female assistant auditor general in the Maldives. She explains how commitment and passion spurred her rise, and the satisfaction she derives from inspiring others.

We also have an interview with Ahmed Faqir Al Bulushi, chief banking officer at Bank Muscat in Oman, and a feature on the new corporate tax set to come into force in the United Arab Emirates in 2023 [link to come when published].

Elsewhere, we continue to look at the impact of the invasion of Ukraine and, in particular, what it means for finance professionals.

For example, a huge number of businesses’ supply chains involve Russian products and services. Identifying these links in the chain and finding alternative suppliers is a massive challenge, as we see in our feature ‘Supply chain pain’. We also look at the steps accountancy firms are taking to keep operations going and to support staff in Ukraine.

Also on a skills theme, we look at the 12 competencies needed by finance professionals to succeed in green finance. As ACCA’s head of sustainability Emmeline Skelton warns: ‘Green job creation will be a huge part of the transition to net zero, and the finance community can enable business to kickstart the processes.’
