I started my first job, as a finance executive at a conglomerate in Malaysia, a month after my last ACCA exam. I was attracted to finance because every business in the world, regardless of size, needs finance people. Furthermore, it’s desirable for any business leader to have a finance background in order to make sound decisions.

After I became an ACCA member, I moved to a multinational in the oil and gas industry, where I was responsible for preparing and compiling financial reports for Thailand and Singapore. It was an exciting role because I got to evaluate the monthly financial results and discuss the reasons for any fluctuation with the different business area leaders.

Having a strong professional network and the ACCA qualification really supported my career

After I became an FCCA, I moved to the IT industry; I’m currently responsible for NTT’s customer revenue. I also lead a team that handles the submission of the fluctuation of financial reports for the Asia-Pacific and Japan, and MENA regions, which consist of 40 entities. It’s truly exciting, as I get to connect with business leaders.

Due to the pandemic, NTT’s physical office is permanently closed and we’re working 100% remotely. In future, organisations will no longer have big office spaces, as all employees or most of them will be working remotely; this will save on costs for both the business and employees.

Having a strong professional network and the ACCA Qualification really supported my career. Without it, I don’t think I could have moved into two multinational corporations. It is a distinct advantage that can differentiate you from others.

I very much aspire to be a finance leader of an organisation, responsible for the decision-making process. However, I would also like to manage my own small business and try to grow it. Reading articles and hearing stories from successful business people like Bill Gates really inspires me.
