As the men’s football World Cup kicks off this month, we interview Ghanaian Richard Torsu FCCA, who swapped a career in banking in Accra to become FD of the Confederation of African Football, based in Cairo, Egypt. With five African teams to support at the tournament in Qatar, he discusses football, finance and modernising the sport’s African controlling body.

Qatar is set to benefit from the tournament for years to come. In our article, we find out about the huge investment made by the hosting nation. For more on the tournament, you can listen to our AB podcast on football finance.

The recent COP27 climate change conference held in Egypt stressed the need to drastically reduce emissions and focus on meaningful climate action among participating nations. Our focus in AB is to highlight the role of organisations and their finance teams in meeting their sustainability agendas and net-zero ambitions. Elsewhere we have a report on an ACCA event that explored how to get more women on boards in the Middle East, and an article on how to catch the eye of UAE employers as opportunities ramp up following the pandemic.

Don’t forget you can earn up to 15 CPD units by listening on demand to our Accounting for the Future conference. The event has so far attracted 39,000 registrants (and climbing), and the agenda offers something for everyone.

CPD is also available this month through our articles on intangible assets, double materiality and how to succeed as a new manager. Also look out for our CPD special edition due to be published in December.
