My interest in accounting and finance has always been strong, especially as I like the problem-solving that comes with it. I also recognised the financial security and opportunities that a career in finance might provide.
After earning my ACCA Qualification and Bachelor’s degree, I pursued my Masters in Finance because I wanted to increase my technical knowledge. This was how I joined KPMG Sierra Leone in 2014 before joining UNICEF in 2018.
I am thrilled about being involved in the positive impact of finance as I really feel that it is essential to the success of people and organisations. I am always determined to further develop my skills as a professional.
Stepping outside one’s comfort zone by doing things that provoke healthy levels of anxiety is great for personal growth
There is nothing better in a job than being passionate about it. UNICEF defends the rights of children and young people, and I have always wanted to contribute to making the world a better place by reaching the most disadvantaged children, women and adolescents, and then putting a smile on their faces.
The world of NGOs is huge, and their work is diverse. If you want a role with an NGO, you must first do some thorough personal research to identify the organisation that interests you. Then you need to build the experience and skills that will help you find a role that matches your interests.
I believe in being open to new experiences and seeing challenges as an opportunity. Growth is a process, not a destination, so stepping outside one’s comfort zone by doing things that provoke healthy levels of anxiety is great for personal growth.
I have a Masters in Finance from Fordham University Gabelli School of Business. Its mission is to educate global leaders who are passionate about business. I believe it provides an education that will sharpen your talents, widen your vision and prepare you to embrace change, so you can be ready for the future. Getting this qualification helped me to secure my role at UNICEF, and gain the professional skills I needed for a successful career.
Where I came from in Sierra Leone to where I am today is one of the greatest achievements of my life
Achievements are the building blocks that make someone feel successful. I have a lot to be grateful for, and where I came from in Sierra Leone to where I am today is one of the greatest achievements of my life. I will ensure that I make the most out of myself and that I will continue to find continuous development and further achievement. I think you should always be yourself and embrace the future.
I am passionate about my profession, but if I wasn’t in finance, I would probably be an environmental scientist. I would like to protect the world and human health through green initiatives and sustainable developmental goals.
I spend my leisure time reading books, cooking, baking and watching movies. I enjoy watching the sun set as it restores a sense of peace and reminds me that I am only part of a much larger picture. Travelling has always been of interest to me as I look forward to exploring new places and making lifetime memories. I am also interested in going on adventures. Soon I will be trying skydiving for the first time.
