My first career break came around 10 years ago when I became an external auditor with PwC. There’s a common misconception that auditing is all about ticking boxes and crunching numbers. I’m glad that my initial role allowed me to explore how numbers flow from strategic decisions and environmental conditions to the people and processes driving operations.
Currently, my role focuses on finance transformation in an international logistics and postal service provider. I’m driving process improvements and project management, bridging the gap between systems and people, and fostering cultural change to embrace new technology. I thrive in this fast-paced environment. The most rewarding aspect is definitely the human connection, working with stakeholders to address complex financial challenges. Witnessing their efficiency and adoption of new technology is incredibly motivating.
We’re making significant strides by implementing robotic process automation
I’m particularly proud of my work in finance transformation at my current company, which has a history of over 150 years and is undergoing significant change. My team and I are deeply involved in various projects, collaborating with both new and long-serving employees to challenge entrenched practices and introduce improvements. We’re making significant strides by implementing robotic process automation, next-gen enterprise resource planning systems and other process enhancements.
The ACCA qualification has been instrumental in my career. It provided the rigorous technical knowledge and global perspective that are essential in today’s dynamic market. The ACCA network has been equally valuable. It is a vibrant community of professionals where I can connect with like-minded individuals, share knowledge and access valuable resources. It has opened doors for international travel and assignments, as well as collaborations with global clients, particularly during my consulting days. In essence, ACCA has been both a compass and a bridge, guiding my career and connecting me with a global community of experts.
My biggest influences are the inspiring mentors I’ve had throughout my career. I have benefitted from the mentorship of a group of well-rounded leaders in finance and transformation who have empathy, and exude authenticity and a genuine sense of care and curiosity about others – after all, in finance and transformation, our role is to understand processes and people, and drive change. My father has been another major mentor, demonstrating that strong ethics and a clear sense of direction – along with a back-to-basics approach – can resolve complexities effectively.
Engaging with and giving back to the community adds a rich dimension to life
My aspirations are twofold. Professionally, I aim to continue expanding my expertise and embrace leadership roles where I can mentor and inspire others. On a personal level, I’m deeply committed to community work. I think that engaging with and giving back to the community adds a rich dimension to life, providing a broader perspective that enhances my professional journey.
To unwind, I enjoy cooking, hiking, food blogging, community work and catching up with friends and family. These activities help me destress, explore new perspectives and connect with loved ones. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial for me to bring my best self to every professional challenge.
