For followers of Formula 1, we feature an interview with McLaren Racing CFO Laura Bowden FCCA, who in the course of 20-plus years with the F1 group has worked her way up to pole position in the finance team. Read her story.

We also speak to Jaysen Toocaram FCCA, director of finance at mass caterer Newrest Wacasco in Oman. He discusses the challenges of ensuring delivery of 45,000 meals a day to 35 clients in the oil and gas industry across the sultanate, as well as hospitals, schools, defence and other establishments. Originally from Mauritius, Toocaram’s career has taken him from one side of Africa to the other and on to the Middle East, where a key focus now is the automation of Newrest Wacasco’s finance department.

We hear how accountants in South Asia are guiding businesses through tough times and have advice from UAE practitioners on how to approach digitalisation. And in our latest tips for practice management, we look at appraisal systems and how to get them right.
